Apply to be a Cafme officer!

Positions available: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Special Projects Coordinator
Deadline to apply: Friday, April 6 by 5 p.m.
How to apply: Send your resume and a cover letter explaining why you want to hold the desired position and how you could benefit Cafme in that position. Send these two materials in an email to unccafme@gmail.com. You do not have to be an official member of Cafme to apply or to be elected.

PRESIDENT
Responsible for:
  • Leading meetings with the executive board, overseeing other officers
  • Preparing meeting handouts and speaker invitations
  • Brainstorming meeting ideas and speakers (and playing a very active role in semester planning)
  • Reaching out to industry contacts for meetings
  • Coordinating with UNC to book meeting locations, times and to maintain club's official status, meeting with advisor if necessary
  • Serving as a liaison to Ed2010 for chapter updates and maintaining Cafme's official chapter status
  • Serving as the face of the organization, a representative of the Journalism School
  • Keeping (safe) all Cafme documents
  • Checking email account
  • Assisting and suggesting projects for member recruitment
  • Maintaining contact with the board and participating in officer discussion on how to better improve the club
  • Encourage partnerships with other campus organizations
  • Helping plan and lead during club trips with the president(s): this includes the annual NYC Trip, Pace Trip, etc.
  • Attending each meeting

VICE PRESIDENT
Responsible for:
  • Leading meetings with the president(s) and board
  • Preparing meeting handouts and speaker invitations
  • Brainstorming meeting ideas and speakers (and playing a very active role in semester planning)
  • Reaching out to industry contacts for meetings
  • Coordinating with UNC to book meeting locations, times and to maintain club's official status
  • Serving as a liaison to Ed2010 for chapter updates and maintaining Cafme's official chapter status
  • Running any meetings or trips the president(s) cannot attend
  • Leading club promotion projects, such as First Amendment Day
  • Assisting and suggesting projects for member recruitment
  • Maintaining contact with the board and participating in officer discussion on how to better improve the club
  • Helping plan and lead during club trips with the president(s): this includes the annual NYC Trip, Pace Trip, etc.
  • Attending each meeting

SECRETARY
Responsible for:
  • Helping the president and vice president
  • Helping with recruiting efforts (by attending Fall Fest and/or J-School Orientation)
  • Keeping track of attendance of weekly meetings/prize winners
  • Taking detailed notes of each meeting
  • Posting meeting recaps to the Cafme blog
  • Maintaining the blog
  • Writing thank you letters to speakers
  • Checking Cafme's email account daily and responding to or forwarding emails
  • Brainstorming meeting topics and speaker ideas with the executive team
  • Reaching out to industry contacts for meetings
  • Leading a few meetings a semester
  • Attending each meeting

TREASURER
Responsible for:
  • Providing the organization with necessary funds to operate (mostly includes printing money, some food money, some travel money and gift money for speakers)
  • Must take and pass the treasurer's test
  • Helping with recruiting efforts (by attending Fall Fest and/or J-School Orientation)
  • Keeping tabs on the Cafme account in the Student Union
  • Keeping track of money collected from dues, cashing checks from dues
  • Applying for Student Congress funding each semester, any subsequent funding requests
  • Brainstorming meeting topics and speaker ideas with the executive team
  • Reaching out to industry contacts for meetings
  • Leading a few meetings a semester
  • Attending each meeting

SPECIAL PROJECTS COORDINATOR­
Responsible for:

  • Helping the president and vice president (communication is extremely important for this position)
  • Reserving spot and organizing booth for Fall Fest, J-School Orientation and other events
  • Helping with recruiting efforts (by attending Fall Fest and/or J-School Orientation and by pubbing)
  • Daily/weekly keeping up the Twitter and Facebook with magazine and industry-related links
  • Creating FB events, sending out messages, interacting with members through social media
  • Taking photos (just a few snapshots) for the FB page at weekly meetings and trips. If you cannot attend a trip, you must coordinate with someone who can to take pictures.
  • Live tweeting a few quotes at the meetings if there is a guest speaker
  • Publicity on campus – T-shirts, events, J-School relations, Intern Panel (must coordinate this), Networking Night
  • Brainstorming meeting topics and speaker ideas with the executive team
  • Reaching out to industry contacts for meetings
  • Leading a few meetings a semester
  • Attending each meeting

**Despite the different duties each position is responsible for, officers must at all times work together toward the goal of improving and expanding the organization. Officers will be expected to contribute thoroughly.
